University Department of Information and Communication Technology, UDICT, MGM university organized a “One Day Workshop on Augmented reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR)” on 20 August, 2022.
The objective of the workshop to aware about latest trends in Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Applications of AR/VR in everyday life, applied research on Immersive experience using AR, VR and XR etc.
Today augmented and virtual reality has become part of our modern society. Their application ranges from e-commerce to healthcare, resource management, cyber-security, logistic and supply-chain, research and many more. This workshop paves a path to understand Augmented reality and Virtual reality or XR and apply the principles of them in a real time scenario.
A total of 125 entries were received for this workshop across the country. A total of 99 participants including students and faculty members attended the workshop. The mode of session delivery was through Zoom meeting.
The workshop started at 03.00 pm. It was attended by 90 participants. Anam Fatima (Assistant Professor, UDICT) welcomed participants and guests and briefed them about the objectives of the workshop.
Anam Fatima, coordinator of the workshop gave brief introduction about all the speakers of the workshop.
The first speaker of the day, Dr. S. C. Tamane, Professor and Head of Department of University Department of Information and Communication Technology, MGM University, Aurangabad delivered the session on “Applications of AR/VR in everyday life”. She gave detailed explanation about augmented reality, Virtual reality, its types, how AR/VR works, its applications, advantages and disadvantages, which brought us a better understanding of the subject.
In the second keynote address by Ms. Rajalakshmi Mahadevan, an XR developer currently working as a METAVERSE GAME DEVELOPER, at Aviram Studios Pvt Ltd presented a detailed overview about applied research on immersive experience using AR,VR and XR by using real time examples in a simple and easy way.
The speaker Prof. Mahesh Anand, a robotics and programming trainer delivered a session on “Augmented Reality- Internet of Things”. He enlightened by introducing the role and application of Augmented Reality in Internet of Things. He explained the concept with live demonstration. Also explained in brief about systematic approaches to carry out IOT and Augmented reality hand in hand.
The Dr. Lakshmanprakash, Assistant Professor,Department of Information Technology, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology,Erode. Dr.Lakshmanprakash conducted a session on “Recents Trends on AR/VR. He explained about the virtual reality and how it is emerging. He also explained AR/VR use cases in AEC sectors.
In the fifth keynote address by Dr. Krishnan Umachandran, General Manager, NELCAST Ltd, in India's largest cast iron foundry delivered a session on “Applications of AR/VR in clean room process machineries”. He presented a detailed overview about applications of AR/VR and where to use which analogy.
The outcome of this workshop is that students and faculty gained knowledge about Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and its applications in everyday life and research areas. We are thankful to the Chancellor, MGM University Aurangabad, Hon Shri Ankushrao Kadam sir, Vice Chancellor, Hon Dr Vilas Sapkal Sir, Registrar, Dr Ashish Gadekar, for giving us the opportunity to conduct this workshop and a word of appreciation to all those who have worked behind the curtains.
